|Glasgow Rangers are reportedly hoping to bring Kyle Lafferty back to Ibrox this summer and have already seen one bid rejected.
There is quite a difference wwwpic5678t between the two clubs' valuations it appears, but the report from The Scottish Sun suggests that Rangers are hopeful that they will be able to agree a deal before the window shuts next month.
And based on what Rangers' squad is currently lacking as well as the asking price that Hearts have set, it appears to definitely be the right decision to keep Lafferty on the radar heading into the final stages of the summer.
The possibility of Lafferty returning is clearly not an option is that is going to unite all of the Rangers fans. There are some who remain disappointed by the manner of his previous departure, while others may perhaps feel that spending the six-figure fee on a 30-year-old is not the smartest idea.
However, the Northern Ireland international is the kind of player that would improve wwwpic5678 Rangers' squad, and it appears that pursuing a deal arguably represents as small a gamble as a realistic striker signing possibly can be.
The Gers do not have a large cluster of options up front. Alfredo Morelos appears to be hitting some form again, but Umar Sadiq is an unproven talent and there is no-one else available to Steven Gerrard unless he moves someone into an unfamiliar position or calls one of the youngsters up into the first-team fold.
Lafferty has not been particularly prolific during his career, but did score 19 goals in all competitions last season. That is his best ever return, so perhaps he may be heading towards a purple patch.
Gerrard does not necessarily need a frontline goalscorer, but with options sparse, he definitely does need a striker that he can depend on if Morelos endures another lengthy spell with a goal at any stage.
Signing Lafferty is still a risk, but for £750,000 - or less if the Gers can agree to a compromise - Rangers would perhaps struggle to get a better striker signing through the door given the boxes that Gerrard still needs ticked after a superb window at Ibrox. wwwpic5678
